Schauspielhaus Graz is the largest theatre in the Austrian state of Styria. The venue features three distinct performance spaces: a traditional main stage seating 550 guests, and two intimate studio stages accommodating up to 100 and 60 attendees, respectively.
Managing a historic venue of this size and importance is incredibly demanding. The theatre’s facility managers needed new tools to provide safe, controlled access to performers, staff, and maintenance crews while minimizing the risk of key loss. The venue's historical significance added extra weight to their concerns. Any lost key could potentially represent a security risk to a culturally important building. They selected ecos key management systems to deliver reliable, automated key control across the entire facility.
The challenge:
Controlling access in a historic cultural hub
Operating a historic venue like Schauspielhaus Graz requires a large workforce of full-time and part-time employees, contractors, and vendors, as well as rotating casts of performers. The theatre’s managers needed to ensure that specific areas remained secure, yet accessible to authorized individuals when needed. That was for both daily operations and the preservation of such an important facility. However, manual key management practices often lead to human error, wasted time, misplaced keys, and potential security breaches.
Our solution:
Automated and segmented key management
To address these logistical challenges, ecos systems helped Schauspielhaus Graz deploy a robust electronic key management solution tailored to the theatre's daily operations. Two separate key cabinets, managed through a central software dashboard, hold up to 40 and 60 keys, respectively. Employees and temporary contractors swipe their credentials at the terminal to access only the keys required for their work.
The result:
Streamlined operations behind the scenes
The transition to an automated system has significantly streamlined the theatre's daily operations. Employees, cleaning staff, and historical caretakers now rely on ecos systems to securely manage room keys. The system provides automated accountability, eliminating manual key handovers and ensuring full traceability of each key's location. Caretakers and staff managers can instantly identify who has each key. Now, theatre staff can focus on delivering exceptional performances instead of tracking missing keys or worrying about managing access to historically important areas.
