Sustainability
We believe that business should be a force for good.
Achieving that takes innovation, collaboration, and a focus on serving others. It also means leading with our values in the technology we make.
As a family-run business we act in a way that we leave the world better than we found it.

Climate is changing
So should be the way we do business
The effects of climate change are becoming increasingly evident. We believe in delighting our customers with innovative products, but at the same time having a minimal impact on the environment. That is why we received the ISO 14001 certificate for environmental management in 2021. All our current environmental targets & long-term objectives have ISO 14001 as a foundation.

Our 4 levers for carbon neutrality (Scope 1 & 2):
Renewable energy
ecos aims to use 100% renewable energy across all its facilities by 2030
Winds of change
We will buy solar & wind energy from external suppliers to fulfill our needs
Electrified fleet
All our current diesel vehicles will be replaced with electric vehicles by 2030
Green workplace
Purchasing more energy-efficient work equipment
Environmental actions beyond immediate influence (Scope 3):
We have set a target to systematically reduce 50% of our upstream and downstream emissions (scope 3). Since the majority of the emissions in this category are produced by third parties, we cannot directly control them. By choosing our partners carefully and auditing regularly we can nevertheless impact these emissions as well.
Purchased goods & services
› Engage in close dialogue with our existing suppliers to develop action plans for emission reduction initiatives.
› Obtain data on CO₂ emissions for new suppliers before choosing them.

Ecological electronic key management system
Making fully recyclable products and packaging by 2030
Eliminate single use plastic from products completely by 2030
Further enhancing waste accounting from the current ISO 14001 standards
Sustainable lockers
Modularity rules!
Our electronic lockers are modular in nature in order combine them in the best way possible, therefore the exact number of assets can be stored, charged or weighed. Extending the locker system is no rocket science and can be done within minutes.
Space-efficient design
We do not have the need for dedicated technical compartments. Therefore our electronic lockers save space, weight, material & costs.
Eco-friendly terminals
“Built to last” and not built for 2 years. Most of the terminals are made out of plastic in order to reduce cost.
However, only upfront costs are reduced. Over the product lifecycle the financial but also the ecological and CO² costs are higher than our steel & stainless steel terminals.
Responsible product design
Since design is the first step in making the best use of resources across the entire development and production process, we take utmost care of it from the start.
Our aim is to completely remove single-use plastic components from our products with the help of eco-design methodologies and life-cycle analyses (LCAs).
eco-design methodology
No single use plastic
Raw material sourcing
Suppliers are carefully selected to comply with ISO 14001 standards in Environmental & Energy Management.
The majority of parts are sourced locally. Thereby emissions from transportation are minimized. Our products use many stainless steel parts that are all originating from energy-efficient steel mills.

Product manufacturing and waste accounting
Negligible emissions during the production process in our factories.
Full waste accounting according to ISO 14001 standard is in place. ecos systems is managing, separating, and properly disposing of waste.

Proper waste accounting
Packaging and distribution
We are shifting from wooden crates towards recycled carton boxes for packaging our products.
No single-use plastics are used in our packaging or in our suppliers’ packaging. We are auditing our distributors methods to further reduce their packaging.

Sustainable distribution
Product use
Our electronic key cabinets use less than 100 KWh per year. That’s less than the most energy efficient washing machine on the market (2022).
This is made possible by having developed an energy-saver mode. All non-security relevant functions such as alarms and sensors are using less energy.

End-of-life
Our values as a family-run business are to focus on the long-term. Therefore our electronic key cabinets, lockers, and terminals have a lifetime of ~20 years. See our long-term thinking here: Nursing Services Klasen
Repairability is ensured by providing customers with spare parts for up to 10 years.
A self-repair possibility is given to our customers as it avoids costly technician intervention and CO² emissions.

Data center operations
New methods, such as increasing supply air temperatures and collecting water from rooftops to minimize water use, are being evaluated across all of our data center operations.
Additionally, for nine months on average each year, outside air serves as the principal source of cooling. Only when further cooling is necessary does water come into play.

Organizational operations
No water is required to internally manufacture and produce our products, and water is only consumed for sanitary facilities. So we are already in a better position to fulfill our commitment.
To further save water throughout our value chain, we now intend to collect, analyze and select our suppliers based on their water consumption and recycling strategy.
