The Brigade Special Security Commands (BSB) is an elite unit of the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, the national police force. Operating out of Camp New Amsterdam in Soesterberg, the BSB is tasked with special security assignments, VIP protection, and rapid response. It is expected to maintain the highest possible state of operational readiness. That means their personnel need immediate, reliable access to their specialized gear 24/7. The BSB sought to improve both the security of their storage facilities and the overall efficiency of their daily equipment management. To do that, they implemented ecos systems to provide maximum possible control over their tactical equipment.
The challenge:
Controlling tactical gear with zero impact to readiness
Operating an elite unit like the BSB requires strict oversight of both lethal and non-lethal firearms and other tactical equipment. Each agent requires access to specific gear, including two pistols, ammunition, a walkie-talkie, and tear gas.
Manually inventorying and tracking these items created a worrisome bottleneck for the BSB’s armory, particularly during shift changes or equipping officers for emergency deployments. Managing gear by hand also introduced the possibility of human error, allowing officers to go into the field with unserviced weapons or uncharged devices. The BSB’s armory leadership wanted a management solution that would securely store their equipment and ensure complete, automated traceability for every item stored.
Our solution:
Intelligent, motorized drawer systems
To address these operational needs, ecos systems helped the BSB deploy a robust network of automated storage units. The installation features 600 fully motorized ecos drawer systems distributed across three separate armories.
Each agent is assigned a personal, electronically controlled drawer in the locker system. The drawers are equipped with multiple RFID detection points and integrated charging ports. Deploying officers simply authenticate at the terminal to access their specific drawer and retrieve their required gear.

The result:
Complete accountability and mission readiness
The transition to using automated ecos systems has streamlined the BSB's equipment management. The BSB can now separately identify, manage, and account for every individual item within the cabinet. If they return a firearm but not an ammunition clip, the system recognizes it and sends an alert.
The RFID technology provides an accurate, real-time audit trail of all gear and has completely eliminated manual logbooks. Simultaneously, the charge recognition features ensure that walkie-talkies are consistently powered and ready for use. The facility now maintains an even higher standard of readiness.
