Evonik is one of the top manufacturers of speciality chemicals in the world. The publicly traded company, headquartered in North Rhine-Westphalia, is one of the largest specialty chemicals companies in the world and the second largest chemical company in Germany. While Evonik doesn't manufacture products like tires, animal feed, or pharmaceuticals itself, it produces the component—the specialty chemical—that gives these products their unique properties. For instance, fuel-efficiency to tires, elasticity to mattresses and healthiness to animal feeds. Today the company is active in more than 100 countries and employs over 33,000 people.

Evonik was struggling to manage all the keys for its different departments. They were wasting a lot of time when searching a specific key. However after the installation of the first ecos electronic key cabinet, they knew that this was the solution to their problems. Moreover, with the addition of electronic lockers, mobile and tool management also became convenient.

Challenge:
Tracking the whereabouts of all the keys & employees were difficult

As Evonik’s various facilities are extremely large, they have to be divided into sections or different zones. However, a larger facility also means more staff and more keys for different applications. Effective management of keys and valuables is therefore more difficult.

Initially, key management was very complicated for several years, time-consuming and error-prone, as it was impossible to know who was using certain keys and when. In terms of resources, particularly working time, the management of keys, valuables and employees’ personal belongings caused problems.

These have been used for over 10 years to manage keys, valuables, firefighters’ tools and personal items.

The result:
Various areas of the facility are managed centrally.

All authorized employees in the various areas of the company use electronic solutions from ecos systems for key and object management. Key cabinets and specialized systems make everyday working life easier and, above all, safer.
