Electronic access controls and smartphone app ensure staff are always accountable for guest room keys
The LINE SF hotel is a 12-story, 236-room hotel in downtown San Francisco. Their Room Director installed an ecos key cabinet to improve day-to-day operations and save all associates time while at the same time increasing security over its guest room keys. To keep their customer service staff working efficiently, they needed to find the optimal location for the key cabinet near their time clock and uniform lockers. Once installed, they leveraged the ecos smartphone app to streamline access even further.
Challenge:
Need better insight and control over guest room key access.
The LINE SF hotel provided excellent customer service. Still, without close control over guest room keys, there was too great a chance an associate could accidentally or maliciously remove a key. The loss of one of these back-of-the-house keys would impact many different teams. Housekeeping wouldn’t be able to access rooms. Sales couldn’t do room tours for VIPs or conference hosts. Engineering couldn’t perform repairs. And, of course, guest safety would be compromised.
Our solution:
Install an ecos key cabinet next to their associate timeclock
While the Room Director at the LINE hotel wanted to increase room key security, he didn’t want that to come at the expense of efficiency. Fortunately, given the slim design of the ecos key cabinet, he could place it on the wall adjacent to the associate time clock in their staff room. So now, when an employee arrives, they can grab their uniform, punch in, and securely sign out the keys they need for the day in just a few seconds. There is no need to go hunting around the venue to find the person holding the needed keys.

Result:
Safe, efficient key access is made even easier thanks to the ecos smartphone app.
As the LINE hotel Room Director said, “We’ve been enjoying the app for the key cabinet. It’s very easy to use and very user-friendly.” The ecos app allows users to authenticate themselves, unlock the cabinet, and select the keys from their phone with just a few button taps. There’s even a manual override for the director and supervisors to unlock associates’ keys remotely quickly. “If there are any issues with an associate’s login, or we just need a key to lend to somebody not programmed with the system, we just click one button, hit open, and then the door opens in a few seconds. That’s it.”
