Electronic locker systems in full operation around the clock.
A U.S. federal border-control agency at an international airport abroad required a secure and reliable way to manage firearms, long guns and duty gear for its officers. The agency handles large passenger volumes and must ensure full accountability and safety when issuing equipment before and after each shift.

The challenge:
limited tracebility due to manual processes
The agency previously relied on manual processes inside its secure equipment room. With nearly 300 firearms, long guns and various police tools in circulation, accountability was difficult—especially because access badges were sometimes shared among officers.
Weapons meant solely for officer self-protection were occasionally misplaced, and the existing storage setup lacked clear organization between firearms, duty belts and personal items. Limited space inside the safe room added to the challenge of storing different equipment types securely and efficiently.
The agency needed a space-saving, biometric, fully traceable locker system to manage weapons and gear with absolute access control.
Our solution:
electronic locker systems with highest security standards
ecos delivered a customized system combining motorized weapon drawers and transparent depots for duty gear. Drawers with multi-RFID technology were selected to securely manage both small firearms and long guns in a space-efficient layout. Each weapon is individually recognized, tracked and logged.
Transparent polycarbonate depots store duty belts, pepper spray, batons and other police gear, while separate compartments allow officers to place personal belongings, such as lunches or small items, without mixing them with operational equipment.
Access is controlled exclusively through fingerprint authentication, eliminating risks from shared badges and ensuring that weapons can only be issued to the correct officer. All access events are automatically documented.
The result:
access-protected management of valuables
The airport’s secure equipment room now operates with full transparency and accountability. Firearms and duty gear are issued and returned efficiently, with no risk of unauthorized access or misplaced weapons.
The modular mix of motorized drawers and transparent depots has improved organization, reduced shift-change time and ensured that officers access only their assigned equipment. Biometric authentication provides reliable individual identification and complete traceability.
With ecos, the agency maintains a fully secure, well-organized and compliant system for managing all weapons and police gear within its airport operations.
