WFP needed a reliable and centralized solution for the secure management of weapons, ammunition, and operational equipment across its facilities. The system had to ensure that all weapons were stored separately from the corresponding ammunition and that both were protected from unauthorized access at all times.

At the same time, staff required quick and straightforward access to the necessary equipment to maintain operational readiness in emergency situations. Manual documentation and physical checks were time-consuming, prone to human error, and did not provide full traceability. WFP also needed a solution that met the organization’s strict internal security standards, including biometric authentication, and that could provide a digital record of all transactions for audit and compliance purposes.

To meet these requirements, WFP partnered with ecos to implement a customized electronic locker solution for the secure management of weapons, ammunition, and essential equipment.

A total of 50 motorized ecos drawers and depots were installed, offering separate storage for each category of asset while maintaining access through a common central control unit. Each compartment is electronically locked and equipped with integrated weight recognition technology that automatically detects whether an item has been correctly issued or returned. This ensures that any discrepancies are immediately identified and unauthorized actions are prevented.

Access to the lockers is managed via a 10-inch touchscreen control panel with fingerprint authentication. Personnel authenticate themselves before entering the armory, after which the system grants access only to their assigned compartments. All drawers are motorized and self-closing, preventing any from being left open inadvertently. Every issue and return is logged automatically, creating a comprehensive digital audit trail for full accountability.

The modular design of the system allows for future expansion and integration with other security platforms, ensuring long-term adaptability to WFP’s evolving operational needs.
